Remembering Casper aka the Big Dog

Written by: Shannon Cannon

Casper was our beautiful 12-year-old Siberian husky. Hairy, but beautiful! I bought him as a Christmas present for Chad, my boyfriend (now husband) of 6 months, in 1998. At the time we were in college at Georgia Southern in Statesboro, GA. It’s a little warm in South Georgia for a husky, but Casper never complained. He loved to lie on the tile by the front door of the house we lived in and watch people come and go. If you rubbed his belly on the way in or out, you had a friend for life!

After college, I moved back in with my parents in Tucker and Casper and Chad moved back in with his parents in Powder Springs. Casper had a new companion in Powder Springs, Chad’s parent’s West Highland Terrier, Lacey. I’m not sure he ever liked Lacey, but he tolerated her yappy, buoyant personality more so than he did most other dogs. Or maybe it just seemed that way since she was smaller and quicker than he was and was able to get away from him pretty easily. He was too lazy to chase her to let her know he was irritated. Customer Service – Or Lack There Of…

Written by: Shannon Cannon

I ran to Target on my lunch break this afternoon to grab a gift for my friend’s baby shower this weekend. The Target off of Sidney Marcus is set up great – there are big signs that you can see from the entrance labeling where everything is located. I was looking for kid’s books and a card for my gift. It was a snap to find those two items. The hard part was picking which ones to get. After I finally decided on two books, one that combined several Dr. Seuss classics into one book and “Good Night Moon,” I headed to the card section. This section almost always gives me trouble because it’s so hard to find the perfect card, but this time I found what I was look for relatively quickly. Needless to say, I was pretty excited – it took me a little longer than expected to arrive at Target because of the weather, but so far, I had found everything I was look for with relative ease. It was time to take my purchases to the check out line. Read the rest of this entry »

Pregnant Lady Etiquette – Part II

Written By: Shannon Cannon

Well, I really didn’t think there was going to be a follow-up to my first post, but a very odd and disturbing thing happened to me this weekend that I thought warranted an additional post on this subject.  Read the rest of this entry »

Etiquette When Addressing the Pregnant Lady

Written by: Shannon Cannon

Well, if you haven’t noticed by now – I’m pregnant! Thirty-four weeks to be exact (that’s 8 ½ months for those of you who are not pregnant and don’t count in weeks). This means I am getting closer and closer to the due date every day and I’m definitely ready! I’ve been lucky that I’ve had a very easy pregnancy compared to some of the horror stories I’ve heard, however, I am ready for baby Bryce to be here and to no longer be in this uncomfortable state of pregnancy. But, before I have the baby, there are a few comments, two specifically, that people have said to me that need to be addressed and eliminated. Read the rest of this entry »

Doctor, Daisy and Car Tags

Written by: Shannon Cannon

So, today is Thursday and it’s nearing the end of my work day. I’ve decided that I want to try to keep up with this blog thing on a weekly basis, but today I can’t think of what to write. I figured if I just started typing, something might come to me. So far, it hasn’t. I’m still going to plug away at it though. This always seemed to help me in my college days, when as a public relations major, writing assignments were an everyday affair. In my last two posts, I have introduced myself and given you some background on my role here at the GSCPA. Now, as I’m typing, I think something has come to me… Read the rest of this entry »
