UPDATE: Are you an investor or a trader?
Written by: Matt Tolan
If you are like many investors during these current economic times, you may not trust the stock market or brokerages in general. This is logical – the stock market dip turned the public into a mass hysteria during the latter half of 2008 when most people’s savings had appeared to vanish. With that said however the markets have since staged an incredible comeback and left many people by who were scared to re-invest their money into something which they believed had failed them.
Some people are wading back into the markets but are confused on what certain market terminology means and how to invest their money. Those people have decided that they want to do investing on their own terms, without the help of a broker. One of the goals of my blog is to help those people out who are becoming budding investors or traders.
When putting your money in the stock market – there are two types of people, investors and traders (or 3 if you have heard the old adage ‘bulls make money, bears make money, and pigs get slaughtered’). Investors tend to keep their money invested in securities for the long haul and do not tend to care about day-to-day fluctuations of the market. Introducing Matt Tolan
Written by: Matt Tolan
Good day to all the blog readers of the GSCPA! I think it’s fantastic that CPA’s or CPA candidates can have a place to not only share some information, but vent about things affecting their lives. As an introduction, I am Matthew Tolan, currently a student trying to finish up my Master’s of Accounting at Kennesaw State University. I graduated with a B.B.A. in Finance in 2007 from Kennesaw State University as well, and worked for E*TRADE Financial for nearly two years. I then worked for a small proprietary trading firm for half of a year before going back to the books. I do still have my Series 7 & 63 licenses which I am hoping to be able to use in a smaller public accounting firm.
I typically blog once or twice a month but am looking to bump that up to possibly once a week once this semester winds down. As someone who already has a blog of my own, I tend to write honestly and objectively so there may be some personal reflection in these posts. I also look forward to trying to give some information regarding a plethora of ideas, from general stock analysis and ideas to sports to computer building to music. You could say that I am a jack of all trades, and master of a couple things. I am also on twitter (@m_tolan) and on LinkedIn if you want to drop in to say “hey.” Read the rest of this entry »
