Bonus Points
Written by: Josh Sanders
Bonus points are great, aren’t they? For good students they’re like a well appreciated extra little “thanks for being awesome” at the end of the semester, but for poor students they are the objects of their most passionate desires. I will never understand why some people don’t do anything all semester long and then scramble for bonus points just before the final. How do they expect it to help at all?
In my Principles of Accounting II class this semester the professor offered 5 extra points (out of 1,000) to every student in the class if 80% of the students filled out the online course evaluation. During the three-week period we had to do this I was bombarded daily by obnoxious message board postings and mass emails with hundreds of recipients. The all went a little something like this: “Please please PLEEEEAAAASSSSSEEEE fill out the evaluation!!!!!!!!! I know you may not need the points, but they can really help out some of us!!! Do the right thing and help your classmates. THEY NEED YOU!!!!!!” Read the rest of this entry »
GOOD AT SPANISH?!?!?

This semester is going great! It’s really stressful, but things are starting to come together in terms of professional development. Last Thursday I received the KPMG Award for Academic Excellence, and today I found out that Deloitte selected me based on faculty nomination and my resume to attend one of their leadership conferences. The Rialto
Written by: Josh Sanders
Hello everyone! I’m really excited for this week because on Thursday I get to walk across the stage at the Rialto to accept an award from Dr. Huss, the Dean of the Robinson College of Business, and KPMG. Other than that, though, nothing is going on….which is a good thing. Life has been stressful lately but is slowing down. Read the rest of this entry »
Ramblin Man

PHEW! I can breathe again. Midterms are finally over (they all went well, in case you were wondering). I guess this is sort of what it will be like after I graduate–a huge rush of work evaluated by outside entities just before April
. To celebrate the end of midterms (or really just the two week break before I start having exams again) I went out to dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and then went Grand Prix racing with my roommates (and won, by the way….no one can sling a go-kart around a corner like I can). Rant
Written by: Josh Sanders
So this one’s just kind of a rant….I like to call it my “accounting is NOT for everyone” hissy fit. Enjoy:
<rant>Sometimes accounting can me mind-numbing.Of course I’m referring to some of the people who take the courses; the subject matter itself is fine. If only people would follow their hearts rather than their parents’ wishes….Not everyone has what it takes to be a doctor, not everyone can be an engineer, not everyone can teach, not everyone can fix a car. It seems that most people grasp these concepts, but fail to see that accounting follows the general pattern. Don’t major in accounting because someone told you it would be a good idea, and don’t do it for the money. You’ll only end up regretting it later…..and so will everyone around you. Study accounting because you love accounting. Oh, and stop bothering me with your questions; you’d probably understand if you read the book. I will help you when you first take initiative to learn on your own. When asking a question about subject matter covered in the book in front of you, “I don’t know” is not acceptable; “I don’t understand,” however, is perfectly fine.</rant>
