Fact or Fiction? Can You Tell the Difference?

We live in a time where technology is at the core of everything we do, personally and professionally. Email and social media are perfect avenues to dispense a plethora of information and “handy” facts. Usually these stories are false and are typically very entertaining.

Each week, I will profile one or two different urban legends, some I’m sure you have seen circulate your email or on Facebook, and others you might not have heard of. Some will be false and others true. They are simply to entertain us and you realize that some people have way to much time on their hands. Enjoy!

Acronyms – How Not to Confuse Things

So, now that you know how to use an apostrophe correctly in the abbreviation, CPA, let’s review the appropriate reference of acronyms. Since all of you are members of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA), you probably list your membership on your bio and/or resume. If you just list GSCPA, many people may not know what that refers to. Additionally, if you author an article, you may use acronyms that relate to the profession, such as the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). Read the rest of this entry »

Virtual Book Club – What Is Everyone Reading?

At some point during the week, I can usually be found at home curled up with my nose in a book. I enjoy getting lost in a suspenseful mystery or a totally mindless girly novel. James Patterson and Nora Roberts are the top authors in my “to read” stack at the moment. Bookstores are one of my favorite places and I can spend hours in one, if given the opportunity.
