Introducing Greg DeFoor

My name is Greg DeFoor and I am going to be a blogger from time to time. I wanted to use my first blog to introduce myself. I am a CPA licensed in both Alabama and Georgia and also a Certified Fraud Examiner. I am one of those corporate America exiles that started my career in public accounting, transitioned into executive positions in private industry, and then transitioned back to public practice. However, I started my own firm in 2002 on my own initiative due to corporate burnout, not from displacement, so I took the plunge before the recession. I have been a CPA for over 25 years.
I’m a self professed numbers nerd. I love accounting and the different opportunities presented from an accounting background. I’ve had a number of experiences to draw on and will be blogging about things that hopefully will beneift you professionally, and sometimes maybe personally. I refer to myself as “The Casual CPA”. One definition of casual is “employed for irregular periods”. Isn’t that true about the CPA profession? We spend time working on projects that generate fees but if you are in your own practice like I am, we also spend time trying to become employed by marketing, networking, and in real simple terms, drumming up business.
