Hallelujah, I’m rich!
Written by: Bob Prator
“I’m a Christian and I want to tell you that you have inherited £2.1 million!” Boy was I excited when I got that email. Just think, I will receive a foreign inheritance. And I don’t have any relatives that live over seas! In fact I have very few relatives…I often say we can hold a family reunion in a phone booth. Perhaps a total stranger picked me out for their post mortem largesse. Anyway, I’m charged up.
I really owe a debt of gratitude to this fine lady that took the time to find me and make sure I receive my inheritance. After all, she didn’t have to go to all that trouble. I must admit that I’m already spending the money…in my dreams I mean. I’m trying to be prudent and not get ahead of myself but It’s fun to think of all the things we can do with such a windfall.
She gave me some instructions about what I have to do to claim the money so I had better look at that again. Life is good!
You don’t suppose there could be a catch to this, do you?
Fishing and Serpents
Written by: Bob Prator
I don’t like snakes. I can’t help it. Its God ordained…Genesis 3:14-15. My fishing buddy D1 feels the same way, but more so. He frequently says, “If you hear me screaming like a girl, I’ve seen a snake.” D1 and I don’t put much stock in the theory that some of these serpents and not poisonous. They are all CopperheadedWaterRattlers as far as we are concerned.
As I mentioned, we like to fish. Fly fish to be exact. Unfortunately deadly serpents seem to inhabit the beautiful places where our beloved trout live. Life is like that. That’s evidently God ordained too. Anyway, it is what it is.
Nicknames and fishhooks
Written by: Bob Prator
Rounded up by Foul Hooked and assembled at one of our traditional spots…Kamp Kubota…..most of us were there. Kubota himself, Slidin’ Jim, Copperhead, MGD, Sea Hunt, Uncle Miltie (AKA “BA”) and me, Taj. Tigerman and Budman had gone missing. The nicknames can’t be explained. You have to be there when they are bestowed to appreciate them. Each one was born in the fullness of the moment, so-to-speak.
The stated purpose of the gathering was fly fishing. The tents, the campfire, the cooking, the story telling, though ancillary, would be the threads that weave a shared memory, a common bond of experience that would be remembered in future gatherings, around future campfires.
We were in Tennessee, near Reliance. The prime target of our fishing would be the Hiwassee River, although some would venture to the Tellico, the North and maybe the Citico. The weather was threatening. Nashville, to the west, was experiencing severe flooding; twelve inches of rain in a day! Surely we would get wet before the weekend was over. Dunked in the Raven Fork
Written by: Robert Prator
It wasn’t going to end well. It was one of those situations where you just know what the outcome will be. Dave and I were fishing the trophy section of the Raven Fork. Rain, which was not predicted to start until the afternoon, had just started to fall.
Yesterday we had our first experience on this beautiful water where big, I mean really big, rainbow trout are the prize. It had been perfect; bluebird skies, mild temperature, clear water, relatively few fisherman and plenty of healthy rainbows. We were so impressed that we had begun planning our next trip before we had been on the water an hour. Read the rest of this entry »
