SANDERS MARKET REPORT – “State of the Union”
Written by: Emily C. Sanders, CPA
January 2010
January is typically the month in which the US President reflects upon the “State of the Union.” Since this time last year, the best thing that can be said about the economy in the last decade was that we did not see a repeat of the Great Depression. The British, who use the term naught rather than zero, call this past decade the Naughties. The name is rather appropriate for a decade characterized by market crashes, fraud and irrational exuberance. Read the rest of this entry »

Introducing Emily Sanders
Written by: Emily Sanders
Greetings from Emily Sanders, CPA, president and CEO of Sanders Financial Management, a privately-held, registered investment advisory firm based in Norcross, GA. I founded the firm in 1994 and today more than 180 multi-generational clients trust us to manage more than $160 million in assets.
Many of our clients are what one refers to as “emerging affluent”, successful entrepreneurs and other first-generation wealth builders. They have in common a lack of time to thoroughly research their investment options and a need for advisors they can trust to help guide them toward the right financial decisions.
Our firm has also built a strong reputation for helping women achieve economic and financial security. Women, no matter their marital or employment situations, should be able to make informed decisions about their finances, retirement planning and investments. My colleagues and I are passionate about helping women of all ages feel financially secure and confident.
Each month in this space I will share the latest market news and how challenges in the economy will impact your investment decisions. I’ll offer some useful financial insight as well, from how a Roth IRA conversion can help you, to why the markets seem to resemble a roller coaster more than a highway, and the pros and cons of investing in China. Good financial books will also be recommended.
It’s been a confusing and challenging time for investors the past few years, and 2010 isn’t going to be any simpler. There are ways to make your investment strategy work for you and my aim is to help you develop a strategy that fits your needs.

Budget
This Blog is about the 1st step in controlling your spending, whether you are getting out of debt or just want to make the most of your finances. It is a primer on making a budget.
Yeah, I used the B word…BUDGET. “Ick, ick, ick”, you’re thinking, “I’m not a math geek”. But the truth is you don’t need to be. Really, you don’t. Budgets can be complicated, it’s true, but they can be as simple as you want them to be. More important that writing a complicated budget that accounts for every penny and predicts the future with 100% accuracy, is writing a budget; any budget. Especially in the beginning, if you had poor spending habits that you’re trying to change, you may not know where you were actually spending your money. The act of thinking about a budget and recording where the money had gone is more important (at least in the beginning) than the budget itself. And besides, even math geeks (like me) can drift into debt or poor spending habits. Read the rest of this entry »
